Placing the church in the heart of the community and making a space for the community in the heart of the church.
Holy Trinity church is the parish church for Orton Longueville. As well as being a space of beauty fit for the worship of God, its purpose is to serve the needs of its local community.
Currently, Orton Longueville lacks a community space where groups and individuals can meet. A modest project of expansion and interior re-ordering of Holy Trinity church will address this need.
The benefits of expanding and re-ordering for the local community include:
- A sense of ownership of your local church
- The use of an historic building of great beauty throughout the week
The benefits of expanding and re-ordering for the church community include:
- A sacred space which can remain open and accessible throughout the week
- Making visible the work and aims of the church to a wider audience
- Ensuring the long-term viability of the church
- When the project is completed, the church will be able to offer a number of different spaces and meeting rooms suitable for a wide range of use by community and church groups for activities including:
- Drama groups
- After school clubs
- Youth groups
- Village social events
- Meetings
- Coffee mornings
- Retirement clubs
- U3A and evening/day classes
The initial aims of the project were to create new flexible space by : (SEE THE LATEST NEWS!)
- Constructing the new Northside Extension with a room suitable for use by groups of up to 10 people, or as a crèche
- Providing a fully accessible toilet in the new extension
- Providing kitchen facilities in the new extension
- Modifying the rear Nave into an elastic space, used for worship on Sundays but potentially usable for large groups and social events
- Re-ordering the Huntly chapel to provide a secure, comfortable and sound-proofed room suitable for larger groups of 20-25 people
We are also hopeful that further improvements and upgrading to the existing facilities will be achieved by:
- Transforming the entrance to the church by introducing glass entrance doors
- Improving the lighting provision within the church
- Improving the church heating system
- Providing the latest modern technology for group use
- Providing stacking chairs to replace some of the existing fixed seating
- Rebuilding the dry stone wall and surfacing the link through to Long Walk, West of the Church
